FLORIDA'S DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF DRUG CONTROL WILLIAM H. JANES

Florida Governor Charlie Crist has designated William H. Janes, Director of the Florida Office of Drug Control, as his representative to the Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free initiative. Mr. Janes also serves as the Assistant Secretary for the Department of Children and Families. As Office of Drug Control Director, Mr. Janes is responsible for coordinating all State efforts to decrease drug abuse and its consequences in Florida. As Assistant Secretary for the Department of Children and Families, he is responsible for the statewide substance abuse and mental health systems.
From 1992 to 2002, Mr. Janes was a counselor, manager, and executive director for the Drug Abuse Comprehensive Coordinating Office (DACCO) in Tampa. In this role, he helped form one of the first substance abuse and mental health collaborations in Florida, the Central Florida Behavioral Health Network.
Mr. Janes holds master's degrees from McNeese State University, the Ohio State University, and the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He served a full career in the U.S. Army and retired as a Colonel of Armor. He and his wife have two children and two grandchildren.
