Introducing Jane Beshear, First Lady of Kentucky
An educator, businesswoman, and community leader, First Lady Jane Beshear comes to Leadership with years of experience in public service and a special focus on youth. Mrs. Beshear spent many years teaching high school students and is committed to improving literacy, to a high quality learning environment for all students, and reducing school drop-out. She is keenly aware of the role of alcohol use in high school graduation failure rates.
While her husband served as Lt. Governor, Mrs. Beshear helped to form the Kentucky Literacy Commission, which coordinates adult literacy programs throughout Kentucky and has secured funding specifically for adult literacy programs.
Mrs. Beshear serves on the Board of Directors of Equestrian Events, Inc. and has also served more than twenty years on the board of the Kentucky Horse Foundation, where she is currently Secretary.
The First Lady was raised in Bowling Green, and educated at the University of Kentucky. She and her husband have two grown sons and one grandson.
