North Carolina First Lady Mary Easley has resigned from Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free to focus on helping the families of the North Carolina National Guard, which has been hard hit with deployments. Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free is deeply grateful to Mrs. Easley for her years of service to the initiative. Mrs. Easley participated in many activities on behalf of Leadership including serving as a spokesperson during Radio Media Tours in conjunction with Alcohol Awareness Month. Mrs. Easley was also instrumental in forging the collaboration between Leadership and the U.S. Surgeon General to publicize the Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Prevent and Reduce Underage Drinking.
This past September, Acting U.S. Surgeon General Kenneth Moritsugu visited North Carolina as part of his multi-State tour and joined Mrs. Easley in announcing that “Media Ready,” a media literacy substance abuse prevention program developed in North Carolina, will be taught in middle schools across the State next year. Mrs. Easley also hosted a meeting to conceptualize and create the Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free Foundation. Leadership wishes to extend our gratitude to Mrs.
Easley and our support to the North Carolina National Guard and their families.
