DAWN GIBBONS

 

Introducing Dawn Gibbons, First Lady of Nevada

First Lady Dawn Gibbons comes to Leadership with years of public service as well as a distinguished business career. In 1988-89,she was named Reno Business and Professional Woman of the Year. When her husband left his seat in the Nevada Assembly in 1991 to serve during Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Mrs. Gibbons was appointed to replace him. During her tenure in the Assembly, she worked on legislation to protect women, children,and other victims and to deter alcohol and drug abuse. Later, after her husband’s election to Congress, Mrs. Gibbons successfully ran for office in the State legislature, where she served from 1999 to 2003.

In 2002, the Nevada Attorney General presented Mrs. Gibbons with the Nevada Women’s Role Model Award. Among her many other achievements, she has served as chair of the Children’s Cabinet; board member on the Committee to Aid Abused Women; and board member with the American Red Cross.

The First Lady was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and educated at the University of Nevada, Reno. She and her husband have three grown children, and three grandchildren.
