Introducing Jenny Sanford, First Lady of South Carolina

As First Lady, Jenny Sanford has worked to make a difference and contribute to the betterment of the community. A member of Leadership since 2003, Mrs. Sanford brings her dedication to the well-being of families and her experience with community outreach.

In 2006, Mrs. Sanford co-authored a guest column in The State titled “Helping Parents Talk To Kids About Alcohol.” Her co-author was W. Lee Catoe, director of the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services (DAODAS).

Mrs. Sanford's other activities include serving on the Hollings Cancer Center Advisory Committee at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), as well as on the Site Advisory Council for the Drayton Hall Historical Property in Charleston. She recently served as a board member of the Coastal Community Foundation and as a member of the MUSC Children's Hospital Advisory Fund. Mrs. Sanford helped form a family company, Birchtrees LLC, which has a long-term goal of raising funds for cancer prevention.

Mrs. Sanford graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University in 1984 with a degree in finance. The Sanfords have four children.
