Introducing Nancy Freudenthal, First Lady of Wyoming

Wyoming First Lady Nancy Freudenthal joined the Leadership in 2003 and assumed the position of Co-Chair in 2005. Mrs. Freudenthal launched the “Wyoming First Lady's Initiative To Reduce Underage Drinking” (WFLI) in 2004. The WFLI Web site (www.wfli.org) provides information on the initiative's State and national activities. Mrs. Freudenthal's work both on the governmental level and with students, has been an important contribution to Leadership.

The First Lady has worked on a host of State policy issues encompassing education as well as health policy, including repealing the Alcohol Exclusion Law. In 2007, her activities included responding to the CDC’s report on teen drinking preferences in Wyoming; issuing a press release in support of the Surgeon General’s Call to Action To Prevent and Reduce Underage Drinking; and uploading Wyoming’s response to the Institute of Medicine/National Academy of Sciences report, Reducing Underage Drinking in Wyoming—A Collective Responsibility, on the WFLI Web site. Mrs. Freudenthal also promoted National Red Ribbon Month Activities and the Wyoming First Lady’s Family Night event in 2007.

Mrs. Freudenthal serves on the NIAAA Steering Committee on Underage Drinking Research and Prevention.  In 2006, she took part in the Underage Drinking Prevention Town Hall Meetings, including hosting a televised statewide meeting and speaking at several others.  She has also supported SAMHSA's annual Reach Out Now Teach-In.

Mrs. Freudenthal champions other issues important to Wyoming families. She works with and participates in the annual Governor’s Roundtable on Children and Families; the annual National Scholastic Read; the annual Governor’s Capitol Art Show and Sale; and the Susan G. Komen Foundation Race for the Cure. She also serves on the Advisory Board of the Family Economic Self Sufficiency Project.

The First Lady received a Juris Doctor degree, with honors, from the University of Wyoming. Currently, she  is a partner in the Cheyenne Office of Davis & Cannon, where she handles a wide variety of matters at both the trial and appellate levels.

The Freudenthals have four children.
