The 12 Steps of NA
- We admitted we were powerless over our addiction—that our lives had become unmanageable. This step encourages members to recognize the impact of addiction and accept the need for help.
- Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. Members are encouraged to find hope and strength beyond themselves, whether through faith, community, or personal belief.
- Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. This step involves surrendering control and trusting in a higher power for guidance and support.
- Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. Members reflect honestly on their past actions, behaviors, and motivations to identify areas for growth.
- Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. Sharing this inventory with others promotes accountability and healing.
- Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. Members prepare themselves to let go of negative traits and embrace positive change.
- Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings. This step involves prayer and a willingness to accept help in overcoming personal flaws.
- Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all. Members identify those affected by their actions and commit to making things right.
- Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. Members take responsibility for their past and work to repair relationships.
- Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it. Ongoing self-reflection helps members maintain honesty and integrity.
- Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out. Members cultivate spiritual awareness and seek guidance for daily living.
- Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts and to practice these principles in all our affairs. Members share their recovery journey and apply the principles of NA in all aspects of life.
